Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian artist and singer. She has released more than 20 albums. Her music is classified as folk-rock and alternative rock although it has additional elements of punk, funk, hip hop and jazz. Widely considered a feminist icon Grammy recipient Ani DiFranco is the mother of the DIY movement and is among the first artists to create her own record label in 1990. DiFranco is the daughter of Elizabeth (Ross), and Dante Americo DiFranco. They began their relationship in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was Italian heritage and her mother was originally from Montreal. Ani Difrasco composed and recorded the song "32 Flavors". This song appears on her album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. This track appears on the film's soundtrack the Canadian romantic drama Better Than Chocolate from 1999. DiFranco apologized in 2013 after it became known that she was scheduled to hold the three-day event in the site of a Louisiana ex-slave plantation. The workshop was cancelled, however many (including this paper) were not able to sense any regret. DiFranco issued an additional apology just a few weeks later. Although known for her role as Little Peoplesinger, she's worked with many musicians and artists from Pete Seeger through Chuck D until Prince. She lives in New Orleans. Ani DiFranco is a friend of Kristen Ford. In 14 years, she had begun writing her songs. She played them at caf s and bars through her teenage years. DiFranco began attending classes in Buffalo State College at age 16 after graduating from Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. Ani's baritone is a customized Alvarez guitar made after several meetings with Chrys, an Alvarez representative of the artist at the time. This guitar is built from solid wood and has the top being made of cedar and the sides. It also has an System 600 Preamp. She's at home with her family in New Orleans where she lives with her husband, two children as well as her sidekick Lefty their long-legged dog that moves around the frame when we're talking. DiFranco acknowledges that more than three decades after her initial appearance in the world of music, she has mixed feelings when looking at her past.
